Floral Porcelain Sculptures by Hitomi Hosono

Artist crafts a series of sculptures that resemble tropical flowers

Jul 15, 2014 | By Staff Writer

Influenced by the vibrant and colorful landscape of the tropical south pacific, artist Hitomi Hosono has crafted a series of elegant sculptures that resemble tropical flowers. Nature and organic forms often inspire the artist’s ceramic works. Unlike her previous works, Hosono has become more daring and experimental with her colour choices. Through experimenting with different pigments and oxides as well as with a vibrant spectrum of colours including hues of pink and coral, she crafts a series of natural forms inspired by natural foliage like banana leaves, hibiscuses and mangroves. Each sculpture is chiseled with such impressive precision that the swirly petals of the botanical sculptures resemble those of a blossoming plant. Hosono will present her works for the Jerwood Makers Open 2014 from July 11th to August 31st 2014.
