The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac Vacheron Constantin

Luxury Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has designed a “Year of the Snake” luxury watch for the next Chinese New Year.

The Chinese year of the snake begins on February 10, 2013, which gives lucky customers plenty of time to hunt down one of Swiss watchmaker Vacheron Constantin’s Métiers d’art models conceived specially for the New Year.

Inspired by traditional Chinese iconography, the gold-enameled dial is produced using the traditional Grand Feu technique found only in Geneva, Switzerland.

The engraved snake fixed in the center of the face comes in a choice of in three metal-gold, platinum or bronze. Described by the brand as “hands-free,” the watch relies on four windows which tell the second, minute, hour, and day.

The watch is available in two versions, 18-carat rose gold or platinum on a 40 mm diameter hull, and sits on a Mississippi alligator strap.

The mechanical self-winding movement features a 22-carat gold oscillating weight which beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin has a relationship with China which dates back to 1845 and the brand will continue the Chinese Zodiac series year on year.

The timepieces are available as a limited edition with only 12 examples of each model, all featuring ‘2013’ engraved on the back. The watches are only available in Vacheron Constantin boutiques, with prices upon request.
