Next year marks the 20^th anniversary of Baume & Mercier’s Hampton collection. Naturally, the brand is introducing new models to celebrate this, and has revealed two references in the run-up to SIHH as a teaser. Baume & Mercier occupies the entry level segment of the market within the Richemont group, and has styled itself as accessible luxury. The two new Hampton timepieces reflect this very well, with subtle details that elevate them above simpler mass market offerings.The Hampton 10155 and 10156 share many common details, with just a few cosmetic differences that set them apart. Both feature the self-winding ETA 2892-A2, which is a workhorse movement that beats at 4Hz, and has a power reserve of 42 hours. The movement is slightly thinner and more elaborately finished than the ETA 2824, with details such as circular graining on the bridges visible through the transparent case back. The watches are rectangular, with cases measuring 31mm by 47mm. At just 10mm thick, they are definitely thin enough to be worn under shirt cuffs as dress watches. To allow for an even closer fit, Baume & Mercier has introduced a gentle curve to the lugs and case back, thus allowing the watches to better follow a wrist’s curvature. This continues with the sculpted case middle/bezel at three and nine o’clock. These recessed portions of the case highlight the curved crystal and dial. Beyond a simple three hand layout, the watches’ only complication is a date window at six o’clock, which has subtly replaced the Arabic numeral index to maintain a clean design.The Hampton 10155 comes with blued steel hands and white numerals on the dial, and is paired with a black alligator leather strap. The Hampton 10156, on the other hand, has matching gilt hour indexes and hands, with a brown alligator leather strap to complete the package.
