New Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph Onyx dial
Perpetuating the brand’s signature tradition of mineral dials. the New Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph bears an Onyx dial
First launched in 2019, the latest Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph is now offered with an onyx dial for the very first time, perpetuating the brand’s signature tradition of mineral dials.
Deep, natural, and intense, this unique mineral grants the new Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph unprecedented depth. The absolute blackness granted by the Onyx dial allows the delicate layout of the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph designed by Jaquet Droz to stand out in a sophisticated manner.
New Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph with Onyx dial
While not quite the “blackest” black, the natural black perfection of Onyx allows Jaquet Droz to accentuate and highlight the smallest detail and bring to ‘light’ the sophisticated hand finished and decorative techniques of the hands and the minute rail of the subdial, hence, the slightest reflection can be admired. Allowing for a complicated play of light, shadow and reflection across the shimmering surface.
Such is the case with the hour markers of the new Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph with Onyx dial, off-center at 1 o’clock, whose fine white gold appliqué features a circular satin finish. The hands are mirror polished, while those of the chronograph and date are polished. The large central seconds is equipped with an openwork counterweight, and the date with a solid counterweight, evoking a full moon or new moon against a black backdrop like the vastness of space itself.
Perfectly balanced, the Grande Seconde Off-Centered Chronograph is a modern interpretation of the celebrated figure “8” layout of the predecessor Grande Seconde. This layout is made possible by the Jaquet Droz 26M5R calibre, an automatic monopusher chronograph with column wheel.
The “off-center” choreography of mechanical ballet is arranged in symmetry to the retrograde date located at 7 o’clock with the chronograph’s 30- minute counter nestled at its heart. The intricate dance on the dial side is matched by the intricate waltz of the monopusher chronograph movement exhibited through a sapphire crystal case back, a gleaming wonder decorated with Cotes de Genève applied to each bridge, matched with an openwork oscillating weight in red gold.
