Jaquet Droz has unveiled a new minute repeater, the Bird Repeater, in homage to its founder Pierre Jaquet-Droz and his love of ornithology and automata.
The brand has said the new timepiece “pushes back the boundaries of haute horlogerie”. It has been two years in development and has been crafted in-house.
The dial is incredibly well-detailed: the base dial is mother of pearl, which is hand-engraved and painted. The birds and nest are also hand-engraved and painted.
When the minute repeater is activated, exciting things happen including a “moving” waterfall as well as a mother bird feeding a chick that hatches from an egg.
The case measures 47 mm in diameter and 18.4 mm in height. Just 16 pieces will be made, 8 in 18-karat gold and eight set with diamonds.
The Bird Repeater will be on show at Baselworld 2013 and the price will be close to half a million Swiss francs. Source: Watchpro
