Late last month, Hublot released the King Power 66 Hodgson at its New Bond Street boutique in London. Created and named in honour of Roy Hodgson, the current manager of the England national football team, the watch is limited to 66 pieces and celebrates England’s World Cup victory in 1966. The watch’s genesis can be traced to Roy’s son Christopher, who also collaborated with Hublot in its design.
The King Power 66 Hodgson is equipped with the skeletonised, self-winding HUB4245 chronograph movement. True to its theme, the chronograph function comes with a twist – the chronograph hands have been moved to the centre, and whilst one reads the time and chronograph’s second hand counter via the outer track, the inner track meant for counting elapsed minutes has only 45 segments to correspond to the 45 minutes in one half of a football game. Small seconds at nine o’clock, a date window at four o’clock and Hodgson’s signature at three o’clock round out the black ruthenium-coated dial.
The watch’s case design mirrors its siblings from the King Power collection, is finished in black carbon fibre and measures 48mm wide. The colour scheme of red and white on black extends here too, with a black rubber crown flanked by red and white chronograph pushers on the right, and a miniature English flag on the left. Finally, the caseback itself is carbon fibre as well, with the English victory emblem.
