First Hunter Caseback in 15 years: A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition
Celebrating 10 years for Lange’s first boutique in Dresden, the A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition carries the Saxony brand’s first hunter caseback feature in 15 years.
In September 2007, the first A. Lange & Söhne Boutique opened next to the Dresden Frauenkirche, a landmark of the baroque city where Ferdinand Adolph Lange first worked before he moved to Glashütte to establish Lange & Sohne. 10 years on, new A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition celebrates the boutique’s milestone birthday. Today, 10 years on, there are 17 A. Lange & Sohne boutiques around the world and a more importantly, a special limited edition model with the Saxony manufacture’s first hunter caseback feature in 15 years.
First Hunter Caseback in 15 years: A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition
This new A. Lange & Sohne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition features a hinged cuvette (or hunter caseback) with a freehand engraving of the Dresden Frauenkirche, which itself had undergone slightly over 10 years worth of restoration from 1994. It’s important to note that the last time anyone had seen a hunter case back, it was 15 years years ago on the 1815 Walter Lange Up/Down Limited Edition.
The 38.5mm special model 1815 Dresden Limited Edition is so named for Adolph Lange’s birth year, 1815 and carries with it the aesthetic traditions of subsidiary seconds, blued steel hands and not forgetting the retro caseback with Dresden Frauenkirche rendering which harkens back to the age of pocket watches.
Other signature Lange artisanal details like polished gold chatons, blued screws, the distinctive ribbing on three quarter plate and iconic hand-engraved balance cock with classic screw balance hide beneath a sapphire caseback which itself is protected by the hunter caseback or dust cover traditionally found on historical watches since the movement required a key to manipulate winding of old mechanical watches. The special Lange & Sohne 1815 Dresden Limited Edition with curvette is limited to 10 pieces in white gold and 10 pieces in pink gold.
