When we first saw the new Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase, we found the moon phase at its new home at the centre of the hour/minute sub-dial, and we actually thought that the moon seems to have found so natural a habitat that we almost wondered why was it was ever placed elsewhere. The striking gold disc that plays the role of this new home comes with two textured and golden moons, prominently frolicking on the sub-dial in a way befitting of a Grand Lange 1. Playing along with the lunar twins are 382 laser-cut gold stars – the smallest one being just 0.07mm in size. Also along for the ride are the typical A. Lange & Söhne big date apertures, as well as an UP/DOWN power reserve indicator which points out the remaining usage of the 72 hours minimum power reserve the watch has when fully wound. Housing the Calibre L095.3 of this timepiece is a 41mm case with a thickness of 9.5mm.
However, the brand is never satisfied with just polishing out the aesthetics of this Grand Lange 1. The moon phase moves in steps that can be tuned with extreme precision. The representation of the moon is accurate up to one day for every 122.6 years by tracking a synodic month every 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds. If, for any reason, the moon phase indicator needs to be adjusted, then the pusher, which lies between 7 and 8 o’clock, can be employed for such purposes. An accuracy of 99.998% for the moon phase is thus achieved. Indeed, we know that A. Lange & Söhne will accept no less.
Available in yellow gold, rose gold (both S$65,000), and platinum (S$85,100), the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase beckons with those bewitching moons.
