With the new 1815 Tourbillon, you need no longer look further for a classic watch executed with extreme precision in mind. At first glance, this 1815 Tourbillon sports a practical and dressy 39.5mm case built to a slim 11.1mm. It fits snugly under the cuff of a fine tailored shirt and, yet on the occasion that it manages to peek out from underneath that cuff, this timepieces begs to be studied in further detail. And when you do look in, you will see a very classic Teutonic design that exemplifies elegance and balance in design. The Arabic and dot markers work hand in hand with the blued hands to tell the hours but what definitely stands out is the aperture which holds a large 13.2mm tourbillon cage with a bold bridge holding it in place. The silvered dial acts as a platform where the tourbillon cage unabashedly takes centre stage.
Take a further step in to study the amazing Calibre L102.1. Within lies two complications that work so well with the tourbillon – the stop seconds and zero reset functions. A few years ago, A. Lange & Söhne managed to actually create a stop-seconds mechanism that allowed the tourbillon caged to be stopped every time the crown is pulled out. Now, the manufactory has succeeded to couple this function with a crucial zero reset function as though to show off precision watchmaking and time telling. In essence, when the lucky owner pulls out the crown, the tourbillon cage is stopped, and immediately reset to zero. Time literally stands still as though waiting in suspense for the owner to push the crown back in so that the cage may resume its timekeeping duties. This execution has resulted in the ability to stop time and precisely synchronise the watch to the second.
This 1815 Tourbillon comes in pink gold (S$221,500) and platinum (S$271,600), but if you are opting for the latter, then you will need to get in a line of buyers anxiously waiting for a watch that is limited to only 100 pieces.
