Internet fashion portal Refinery 29 worked with DKNY to create the website’s first line of bags. A seven-piece handbag line, Refinery29 + DKNY will go on sale in March 2013 and will be available at DKNY stores, dkny.com and refinery29.com.
This is Refinery29’s first collaboration with the New York label, which was established in 1989 by the designer Donna Karan as a diffusion line but is now owned by the Paris-based LVMH luxury group.
The bags are named after the cities in which Refinery29 is based — New York, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington DC, San Francisco and London.
Refinery29 London is due to launch this autumn, the first time the brand has crossed into the European market.
Piera Gelardi, Creative Director of Refinery29, told WWD, “We are a trend destination, but the bags aren’t overly trendy. They are still classic.” The bags will sell for between $195 and $395.
Originally a content-based site, Refinery29 now allows users to shop directly online and has posted positive results, prompting CEO Philippe von Borries to predict $8 million in revenue by the end of the year.
