Launch of Harry Winston New York Collection
New York was as much an influence on Winston as he was on New York and his latest collection celebrated his muse in star-studded fashion
In a venue with the motto “play among the stars”, set 65 stories above the Rockefeller Center, Harry Winston was very much at home when they unveiled its New York Collection with a star-studded event held at the world-renowned Rainbow Room in New York City. So named for the musical instruments which changed colours based on the tone of music (but really the indirect lighting of the Rainbow Room), the softly-lit terrace restaurant-bar, one of the highest venues in New York City, enhanced the narrative of Harry Winston’s rich New York roots with thoughtfully executed vignettes portraying the nuances of Mr. Winston’s beloved muse – New York; after all, it was his acquisition of famed New York socialite Arabella Huntington’s jewellery collection in 1926 which kickstarted his namesake jewellery brand.

New York was as much an influence on Winston as he was on New York. In 1949, Howard Hawk’s Broadway musical “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” included mention of Winston in a pivotal song, “Talk to me, Harry Winston, tell me all about it!” during the spoken interjection of the song “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend”.
From the Brownstones of the Upper West Side, to the lush greenery of Central Park, to the City Lights of Broadway, to the famed design aesthetic of the House’s Fifth Avenue Flagship – the night was a celebration of Harry’ Winston’s New York. In amidst dancing lights, the Rainbow Room was home to a stellar cast – the newly launched New York Collection and notable stars in film and fashion, including actresses Naomi Watts and Katie Holmes, as well as global influencer Camila Coelho, all wearing pieces from the collection.
The starry event came to a close with the recognisable, emotionally driven belting and vocal styling of Jennifer Hudson, a surprise performance from the Grammy and Academy Award winning artist.
