One of the world’s most expensive tartans is about to roll off the production line at a Scottish mill.

Woven from 100 percent pure Mongolian cashmere, the fabric will be used to produce a number of items including a kilt costing about £5,000 (about $9,000).

The Scotsman reported that the tartan has been designed by Peebles company, Holland and Sherry, to commemorate their 172 years of operation in the town.

Sales and marketing director Malcolm Campbell described it as a “champagne fabric rather than a bottle of beer”.
