Gucci and Xbox Rumoured to Be Collaborating
2021 is shaping up to be the year of unexpected collaborations, as Gucci and Microsoft Xbox tease a potential team-up.
Joining the list of unexpected collabs, Microsoft Xbox and Gucci are potentially joining forces. Earlier in the week, both brands teased the collab through a Twitter interaction.
Rumours began after the official Xbox Twitter account had tweeted: “Saying ‘GG’ at the end of every game will never go out of fashion.” The tweet was seemingly referring to Gucci’s “GG” monogram logo, was then met with a tweet by the said fashion house: “We couldn’t agree more.”
Other than the Twitter interaction, Matthew Haag, CEO of 100 Thieves, a gaming organisation, posted a picture of a leather tag attached to a GG monogram bag showing both the Microsoft Xbox and Gucci logos together. The close-up shot seems to resemble a suitcase.
This isn’t the first time Gucci has had a fashion-gaming crossover. In 2020, the fashion house teamed up with Tennis Clash to design an in-game tennis court decked out in Gucci branding, as well as Gucci outfits for its characters. More recently, it has partnered with toy-maker Hot Wheels in recreating a miniature version of the iconic Cadillac Seville.
A year after, the label worked with Roblox to host a digital museum and sell in-game versions of its monogrammed Dionysus bag which was sold for approximately US$6. In June this year, Gucci had also partnered with the aforementioned gaming organisation, 100 Thieves.
Xbox is no stranger to fashion as well, having launched recent 20th-anniversary collabs with PLACES+FACES and Adidas.
Other collaborations in the fashion world include Tiffany & Co. and Supreme’s partnership. Rumours of the collaboration surfaced some time in September and both brands have since teased it on both their Instagram accounts.
