Recon Snow2 HUD

Recon Instruments has just unveiled its new and improved heads-up display (HUD), allowing wearers to see maps, speed, temperature, and playlists all while carving up the mountain.

Snow2 also captures vertical descents, jump airtime, navigation, and distance using a built-in precision GPS and an integrated suite of sensors. In other words, you’ll always know just how fast you’re going, how many jumps you took, and how much ground you’re covering.

The built-in GPS enables full resort navigation, and when paired with a compatible Android or iOS device, you’ll have real-time tracking delivered direct-to-eye. Also, when pairing with a smartphone, the device allows you to read texts, view a call display and access your music player controls.

The Recon Snow2 is actually the brand’s fourth-generation HUD — but this model has been designed to fit into goggles from leading brands such as Oakley, Smith, Scott, Uvex, Apina, Birko, and Zeal. Plus Recon is offering a standalone unit that comes preintegrated in a pair of goggles and isn’t removable.

Snow2 comes equipped with a dual-core processor that the company says is three times more powerful than its predecessor and a more efficient battery that lasts about 35 percent longer. Snow2 now has a dedicated graphics processing unit providing enhanced brightness and contrast and increased screen readability. What’s more, it comes with wifi connectivity.

Snow2 sells for $399 and is available at Apple.com and in Apple retail stores worldwide as well as specialty ski and snowboard retailers in partnership with Smith, Oakley and Zeal.
