Donald Trump has bought Scotland’s Turnberry golf and hotel resort from Dubai-based group Leisurecorp for an undisclosed sum.
They bought the complex, which includes a five star hotel, luxury self catering accommodation and a spa, for £52million in 2008. But since the financial downturn swept the globe, the course has been unofficially up for sale.
The Turnberry resort, which has hosted The Open golf championship four times, includes a five-star hotel and three golf courses.
Turnberry is the only course within the Open circuit which is privately owned, and last hosted the competition in 2009.
Trump is reported to have paid around $63 million for the complex, which is expected will host The Open championship within the next decade.
The course will not in any way be “touched or altered” other than with the approval of the Royal and Ancient, which organises the Open Championship.
