View of the Enchanted River: Symphonia POP in Montreal Canada
Symphonia POP is a residential tower that is set to rise on a much-coveted site, with the exciting design architecture featuring a curved face that is slightly redesigned through the use of transparent and offset glazing panels.
Symphonia POP is a residential tower that is set to rise on a much-coveted site, situated on the southern tip of Île-des-Sœurs, along the Saint Lawrence River. It will cover a land area of 29,590 m². This beautiful project will be built by Provencher Roy Architect who will also oversee the landscape design.
When ready, the 32-storey tower will feature a modular architecture, comprising of 240 units of one to three bedroom apartments, with a floor area of 600 to 3,000 sq ft and nine to eleven feet ceilings.
Symphonia POP will contain exciting facilities such as an indoor and outdoor pool, a hot tub and sauna, a gym and a hall for private receptions and a lounge. Within the lush environment will contain recreational elements like the heated outdoor pool and the bike path.
The new-build next to the shoreline steps up the important role in defining the site’s landscape architecture to take in the view of the riverbank, downtown Montreal, while the site looking out towards southwest will get a view of the river and a sweeping sight of the urban landscape.
As the Symphonia POP apartment will be built next to the existing Symphonia tower, Roch Cayouette, partner-architect at Provencher Roy sheds light on two perspectives necessitating two complementary architectures, “In order to maintain an architectural coherence between the new building and the existing one, we decided to extend certain distinctive elements of the phase I architecture while redefining others so as to give the overall complex a fresh momentum.”
He added that “we decided to keep the river/city duality present in the visual scheme of phase I by introducing a concept that would specifically address these two entities.”
Where the towers are located, and a “river” portion, sometimes the location will impart a particular kind of personality to a dwelling. The architects designed the interior with spaces to have spectacular fenestration, positioned to maximise the views and allow more natural light coming in. The outdoor recreational environments are constructed to echo the curvature of the lobby and its resonance in the shape of the pool; a new, imaginary shoreline is juxtaposed onto the site.
Symphonia POP is accessible via future new rail system Champlain Bridge, the new Turcot Interchange and the Réseau électrique métropolitain.
The project will begin in summer 2018 and is expected to be completed by fall 2020.
