Italian Lighting Designer Elio Martinelli Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Cobra
For the 50th anniversary of its production, the Italian design brand Martinelli Luce will unveil 23 model lamps with striking styles in white and pink, and cobra skin effect with a digital twist.
The Italian design brand “Martinelli Luce” is turning 50 this year. To celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, its founder Elio Martinelli has teamed up with 23 designers to redesign the iconic “cobra” lamp, and reissue the 1968’s version with a new, custom graphic textures. After unveiling a new model in red (shown below), this year the newly designed lamps will go on display at Milan Design Week and each model of the 23 models will be produced in a 30-piece run.
Designer Alessandro Mendini finished the lamp in white, with a hammer and sickle; Adolini+ Simonini Associati completed the look of the lamp with a striking style involving a cobra skin effect with a digital twist; and Paolo Orlandini gave the “Cobra” lamp the look of a veined or cracked stone.
Inspired by nature, Elio Martinelli’s “cobra” lamp is illustrated by simple lines with its geometric, spherical shape. The shade recalls the head of a cobra and it comes with swivel function to present maximum adjustability according to the user’s reading comfort.
Since its establishment in 1950, the design brand has been producing classic lighting with designs encapsulating the 20th century’s inspiration, as seen in “Pipistrello”, “Profitterolle” and “Ruspa.”
