InterContinental Khao Yai Resort in Thailand is a testament to sustainability when designing a hospitality project. Helmed by the multi-hyphenate, award-winning architect, landscape designer and interior designer Bill Bensley, the property is born out of the idea of using abandoned train carriages that spin the tale of the golden age of travelling. If you have a penchant for wanderlust escapades that mirror the life on the Orient Express, then your love for train travel might materialise at this 64-key property. Ensconced in verdant gardens, these train carriages have been given a second life. Bensley’s eye for design has transformed them into chic suites with modern amenities. Each room, particularly the distinct bedroom design, represents Bensley’s quirky but stylish aesthetic.

Beyond its luxurious lodgings, the resort offers curated experiences such as guided tours through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Khao Yai National Park, wine tastings at nearby vineyards, and cycling adventures amidst rolling terrains. At InterContinental Khao Yai Resort, every detail is designed to offer an exquisite blend of luxury and nature, ensuring an unforgettable romantic escape. These stylish train carriages and their bedroom designs could inject fresh ideas into your bedroom design.

Ready To Transform Your Bedroom?

From expert tips to luxury beds, these trusted foundational pointers will help one craft the perfect dreamy love nest. A tasteful fusion of sensory-engaging design elements is necessary to create a warm and sensual bedroom. A sleeping sanctuary can be turned into a cosy haven by carefully adding particular aspects. Here are eight professional tips for creating a comfortable and alluring bedroom:

Layered and Ambient Lighting

Lighting is essential for creating a romantic ambience. Metallic ceilings are an excellent way to reflect ambient light if one is willing to take a risk. Casting a shimmering light from a gilded ceiling fixture with a dimmer can create a secluded, sensual environment.

Use layered, diffused lighting instead of harsh, direct lighting, and use sheen and opulent textures. It is crucial to include multiple light sources and dimmable bulbs so one can change the lighting to create a cosy and welcoming space.

Scents and Fragrances

Scents in the bedroom

Relaxing fragrances in the bedroom might help one unwind and get better sleep. Lavender is well known for its calming effects, which include lowering anxiety and promoting sleep. The sweet, reassuring scent of vanilla might help reduce tension. It is proven that jasmine’s flowery scent improves sleep effectiveness. These fragrances can be included in diffusers, candles, or essential oils to create a peaceful atmosphere that promotes sound sleep.

Use Jewel Tones and Layer Rich Textures

Deep, rich hues and various textures are layered to create a seductive palette. Use deep pinks, purples, and turquoise in prints and solids for dimension. These colours, combined with soft textiles like silk or velvet, produce an extravagant and welcoming atmosphere that makes the room feel cosy and sumptuous.

Pared-back Minimalism

Suppose one is a stickler for a Scandinavian, Japanese-style, or Japandi bedroom design. In that case, one can choose neutral colours like pale wood, nude or neutral hues, and minimal furniture to avoid distractions, relaxing for a night of exquisite lovemaking. Dimmable cove lighting contributes to the romantic atmosphere.

Selective Tech Can Help

Ditch the TV in the bedroom

The worst thing to put in a bedroom is a television. It will become a significant distraction and hinder the desire to make love. Move the TV to the living room to concentrate on one’s companion. Opt for windows that look out for nature if a focus point is needed. However, a music system can help establish the tone for the evening to canoodle with a lover in bed. Even scents can play a part in setting a romantic mood. One can choose an automatic fragrance diffuser to offer sensual olfactory stimulation. Select citrus, eucalyptus, sandalwood, lavender, chamomile, and jasmine fragrances.

Select Comfortable, Opulent Bedding

Unstructured, cosy bedding can add to the appeal of the bedroom. Replace the pressed and starched sheets with cleaned linens that have been deconstructed at the hem. This method promotes intimacy and relaxation by creating a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere.

Accents of Velvet

Velvet’s smooth and velvety texture makes the bedroom more romantic. Including velvet throw pillows in the bedscape is crucial to creating a romantic touch. These touches improve the space’s tactile experience while creating a sensual and cosy atmosphere.

Make Use of Candlelight

Candles are a classic addition to romantic décor. They should be placed in unexpected places, like candle sconces on the wall on either side of a dresser mirror. This creative arrangement gives an old-world elegance and a subtle, flickering glow that makes the space feel more intimate.

Rich Textures Layer by Layer

Several layers of texture are used to create a sultry and peaceful bedroom that will make one want to stay there forever. To give the room depth and cosiness, they advise utilising wall textures.

Include Moody and Dark Components

Darker colours can give the bedroom more drama and intimacy. Dark fabrics can create a calm haven or a theme with plenty of texture can create a theatrical look. These components can create a cosy, reflective atmosphere ideal for unwinding.

By carefully combining these design components, you can create a bedroom that is a place to sleep and a sensual haven that encourages closeness and romance.

Rix’s bedroom design for a client is based on a modern Peranakan style where traditional furniture and retro elements come together. The rattan bedhead frame adds a retro feel and complements the theme. The mood lighting is also critical in making the space cosy.”
