Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay: A Fusion of Modern Elegance and Art Deco Splendor
Nestled in the heart of Qatar, the Waldorf Astoria West Bay stands tall as a 44-story tribute to the iconic Waldorf Astoria New York.
Stepping into this architectural masterpiece, guests are greeted by 283 Art Deco-inspired rooms and suites, adorned with the sophistication of the 1930s design era. A collaboration with HBA, the world-renowned hospitality design firm, brought this vision to life, seamlessly intertwining tradition with innovation.
At the forefront of the hotel’s design is the Tiffany & Co. clock, a 771-pound work of art crafted from anodized aluminum. This captivating timepiece, situated in the lobby, sets the tone for the entire experience, with its robin’s-egg blue hue and diamond motif—an homage to Tiffany’s signature style. The clock is complemented by a four-sided bench, mirroring the delicate pale mohair upholstery found in each guest room, creating a harmonious connection throughout the hotel.
The reception area boasts an Églomisé screen inspired by Jean Dunand’s stylized landscapes and custom hand-painted De Gournay wallpaper, transporting guests into an Art Deco dreamscape. The guest rooms themselves are a testament to luxury and attention to detail, featuring materials such as Aqua Bella marble, Tiffany Blue-inspired mohair, and embossed shagreen patterned wallpaper.
The Peacock Alley, a historical gem within Waldorf Astoria, finds its place in Doha, faithfully recreating the glamour and grandeur of the original New York City establishment. The full-height plaster-carved wall, referencing the work of designers Armand Rateau and Jean Dunard, immerses visitors in an exotic landscape.
The central catwalk, adorned with a marble mosaic pattern and subtle peacock feather motif, captures the essence of the albino peacock that inspired the original Peacock Alley.
Journeying further into the hotel, the Cortland Bar unveils a Jazz Bar adorned with Namban De Gournay wallpaper. The gilded tones, abstract patterns, and celestial pendant lights contribute to a nostalgic yet glamorous atmosphere. The Rear Ballroom Lobby, standing at 7 meters high, mirrors the streets of New York City with Sputnik-style pendant lights and distinctive Amazonite marble.
As guests enter the ballrooms, they are enveloped in the glamour of a bygone era, surrounded by intricate relief-patterned walls and geometric panels in platinum and jade green hues.
In every corner of this hotel, the design narrative unfolds, seamlessly marrying the opulence of Art Deco with contemporary luxury. Each space, from the lobby to the ballrooms, pays homage to the Waldorf Astoria’s storied past while creating a fresh, aspirational experience in the heart of Doha.
