Movie firm Paramount has announced plans to launch a chain of hotels. The hotels will be luxury properties with ‘elements of the California lifestyle’.

The firm, one of the most active studios in Hollywood and the name behind movies ranging from Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Mission Impossible, plans to create up to 50 hotels and resorts themed around Hollywood and California.

Audiovisual technology is expected to be top-notch in all properties, with mini-theaters in place for guests to use for private screenings.

Initial talks are underway for locations in Brazil, the UK, the Caribbean, Russia, Qatar, Oman, South Africa and Indonesia, reports Bloomberg.

Paramount has an exceptionally powerful brand with which to move into hospitality — a strategy which has worked well for its major rival, Disney.

As well as its theme parks, Disney launched its own hotels and resorts chain last year, the first time it has operated a hospitality establishment without an accompanying park.

The Aulani resort and spa opened in August on the island of Oahu, offering a more relaxed vacation experience than the firm’s parks, with a large spa, pools and a beach, golf and Disney-themed activities for children.
