The Oberoi Mumbai is to reopen April 24 for the first time since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.

The hotel, which was the location of a three day siege in which 32 people died, has been extensively renovated and refurbished over the past year.

All of the 73 suites and 214 guest rooms have been renovated to include dark oak wood floors, hand tufted rugs, iPod docking stations, high definition televisions and marble bathrooms.

The Presidential Suites, on the top floor, also have adjoining security rooms rigged to the hotel’s CCTV systems.

It now plays host to two new restaurants — ‘Ziya’ an Indian restaurant under the direction of the Michelin starred Chef Vineet Bhatia; and ‘Fenix’ a new all day dining restaurant.

A new bar also joins Vetro, the Italian restaurant which was previously in the building.

Although a plaque in the reception area is dedicated to those killed at the Oberoi during the siege, staff say that they are keen to move on.

The luxury Taj Hotel, which adjoins the Oberoi, reopened after the attack in December 2008.
