The luxury Mandarin Oriental Hotel chain has unveiled its plans for its first five-star hotel development in Moscow, Russia.

Designed by architect HOK the 250-room “upside-down” hotel will require customers to check-in at sky lobby level affording views over Red Square and the Kremlin.

The hotel will be located on Tverskaya Road and will see the redevelopment of an historic building, originally constructed in the early 19th Century as a private manor house.

The building will retain two of the historic facades along with listed rooms on the ground and first floors.

The nine-level internal atrium features a contemporary approach on a Faberge Egg which rises from ground level and terminates as a specialty restaurant overlooking Red Square at level nine.

The Mandarin will incorporate 70,000 sq ft of retail space dedicated to luxury brands with underground parking for 270 cars.

The hotel will be home to two ballrooms; a health spa and wellness centre; an indoor swimming pool; fitness centre and a variety of restaurants and bars.

Construction is expected on site towards the end of 2009 and the hotel will be officially open to the public in 2011. Source: Propertyweek
