Designers Sir Jony Ive and Marc Newson (both of Apple fame) have unveiled their latest project – the Claridge’s 2016 Christmas Tree.
The famous London hotel enlisted the help of Australian designer Newson and Apple’s Chief Design Officer Ive to create the festive installation, based on the concept of a magical forest described as “an immersive experience that plays with the relationship between nature and technology, tradition and the future and between three dimensions and two.”
The duo worked with British set designer Michael Howells on the scene, which features giant light boxes glowing with black and white images of snow-covered trees, natural and photographed silver birch and fir trees, and a canopy of natural green pine. Light settings recreate everything from celestial skies to sunrises.
“There are few things more pure and beautiful than nature, so that was our starting point, layering various iterations of organic forms with technology,” said the designers in a statement.
