Yacht Style #46: ‘The Asia Issue’ – Builders to Buyers, Sales to Shows
The second Yacht Style issue of 2019 includes features on Asia’s yacht builders and Indonesia’s luxury charter options ahead of the region’s show season
Yacht Style 46 has been tagged as ‘The Asia Issue’ due in large to this time of year being Asia’s shows season. The world’s leading builders have planned long in advance to get new yachts out from Europe, while local dealers have worked hard to put the regional boat shows, from Singapore to Shanghai, in their schedule for recent arrivals or arranged to move boats within Asia.
Other reasons Yacht Style 46 has been tagged as ‘The Asia Issue’ include a feature on some of the continent’s top luxury yacht builders. Shipyards in China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and beyond have long proven build quality here can be the equal of anywhere, while many are prioritising innovation and new technologies.
The Asia theme continues as Yacht Style introduces a new Owner series, starting with a profile of Cynthia Wong, who followed an introduction to wakeboarding by taking up windsurfing, then bought a Hobie before graduating to skippering and owning sailing yachts. It’s an inspiring tale and there are more to come in this profile series.
Most of the Review articles feature yachts based in Asia and otherwise they’ve cruised here or will arrive very soon. As well as a profile of the Amels 242 Plvs Vltra, our cover story, there are exclusive yacht reviews of the first-ever Sanlorenzo SX76 that recently arrived in Hong Kong, the second Prestige 520 into Asia, the new Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 reviewed in Sydney, and the China-built Aquila 36, which will be at the Singapore Yacht Show.
Travel features throw the spotlight on Indonesia with a focus on the latest luxury charter phinisi, Prana, and a profile on the West Papua region, while there’s even an intriguing slice of history on the Empress of China, which sailed from New York to Guangzhou in 1784 and kick-started US-China trade.
Exciting global launches include the latest 100m-plus gigayachts from Benetti and the Pershing 140, which is headed for Asia later this year and is one of a series of Ferretti Group landmarks in 2019.
Yacht Style #47 will hit the bookstands in May and include exclusive reviews of new yachts absolutely fresh into Asia, some of which only had their world premiere earlier this year.
We continue our Owner series with an experienced yacht owner based in Malaysia, and interview industry heavyweights while touring boat shows in Asia.
