Yacht Review: Lagoon Seventy 8 Catamaran

The Lagoon Seventy 8 super catamaran is the perfect yacht for long range cruising and she had her World Premiere at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. The new flagship for Lagoon, the Seventy 8, was designed by one of the top naval architects in the world – VPLP, not forgetting, esteemed exterior and interior designers Patrick Le Quément and Nauta Design, respectively. The real challenge for Lagoon was to design a yacht that offered cutting-edge solutions for owners looking for motor yachts, while meeting the needs and expectations of a new generation of gentleman sailors.

In an interview earlier this year, the globally renowned designer Patrick le Quément, who designed the exterior of the Seventy 8 stated, “Our desire was to increase the emotional charge of the Lagoons, giving them greater charm to accompany the architectural breakthroughs that have made the brand an archetype.” A genuine chef-d’oeuvre in terms of innovative engineering, the Seventy 8 has exceeded expectations and marks an important step forward for Lagoon in the motor yacht world.

Flybridge

The flybridge provides a shaded platform for dining and enjoying the surroundings as well as a bar for endless cocktails and canapés. The Seventy 8’s enormous flybridge can be fully customised: a jacuzzi, a large foldaway dining table to starboard, a magnificent sun lounge to fore, with a hard top sliding sunroof. Most notable is the ergonomically designed helm station and seat on the starboard side, which allows any guest onboard to enjoy the experience of sailing, while admiring the beauty of the ocean.

Main Saloon

Surrounded by large windows, the vast saloon is furnished with contemporary style furniture and provides panoramic views. Two large corner sofas dominate the living area – perfect for relaxing evenings with family. The innovative design of the saloon allows for further sofa space whilst keeping the captain’s controls separate from guests.

The forward platform affords a commodious area for relaxing and an incomparable sense of spatial freedom. It also affords incredible ease of access between the interior and exterior space, achieved via the central glazed door, which glides out of sight, and provides access to the foredeck.

Accommodation

Head downstairs into the Master Cabin and you will notice that the elegant interior styling flows seamlessly throughout, with subtle lighting adding a modern touch. Without a doubt, the highlight of the Master Cabin is the drop down hydraulic balcony. With its huge hull windows that feature integrated portholes, it results in the cabins being flooded with sunlight as well as affording breathtaking views.

This space allows for total privacy; your own personal platform for gazing out to breathtaking views, or peer through the glass floor and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of teeming sea life in the crystal-clear waters below. A very wide choice of layouts can accommodate different lifestyles onboard: with up to five cabins available, and each with an “Island Bed”, you can have plenty of storage space and en-suite bathroom. Crew cabins are located in the forward hulls for greater comfort and more space and can be included with the aft galley as an option.

Swim Platform

The aft cockpit is open to the sea and includes a lounge area to port as well as spacious aft seating and a dining table. The Tenderlift platform connects the two skirts and creates an extraordinary swim platform.
