Luxury yacht launches 2017: A second Galeon 460 FLY hits the waves in Asia

Sporty performance

How nice to see something turn up that is genuinely different. We have heard the word ‘revolutionary’ too many times, and it is rarely justified. However, when someone manages to fit entertainment space onto the back of a 46-footer that more properly belongs on an 80-footer – that’s revolutionary!

When Galeon produced the 500 Fly they took a few pages out of the Transformers script: now they have applied the same cleverness to the newest in the line, the 460. Up on the bow a sofa well converts into an al fresco dining area or collapses into a sunpad. It’s the sort of multitasking that you find throughout the boat. All the way down at the stern, there’s the lift/drop swimdeck that includes an integral swim ladder that deploys automatically, and immediately in front of that is a rotating cockpit seating unit that allows the guests to be forward-facing when the boat is under way – or aft-facing when you are moored and in ‘beach mode’.

Multifunctional interior with plenty of space

Keep going forwards. Here are the sliding glass cockpit doors that disappear when you want to turn the cockpit and the interior saloon in one continuous unbroken space. Magic. On either side of the boat the bulwarks drop down 90 degrees to ‘flat’ and become extended deck space. It’s one thing putting a small balcony of this nature on a 100ft superyacht (the effect is nice, but minimal) and quite another adding a couple of feet of deckspace to both sides of a 46-footer. Here, the percentage difference is huge, and the effect is spectacular.

On both sides of the saloon, aft, the windows drop down to provide a straight-through space, side to side. To port that means the galley becomes an outward-looking bar – add two bar stools to the folded-down deck and hey presto! it’s a new entertainment space.

This compact motoryacht really does make the most of every available bit of space on board and has been a hit with owners and charter clients in Asia; it boasts all the ground-breaking innovations of its bigger brother the Galeon 500 FLY, but in a smaller package. Quite honestly, you’d be hard pushed to tell which one you are on board. Guests can be entertained in the main saloon, which features a dining area and a full sized kitchen, and on the flybridge in another alfresco dining and entertainment space. They can retire to one of the three airconditioned cabins below, and the spacious master suite is located midship, offering access to an en suite bathroom for extra privacy. The yacht can be customised with a variety of available woodwork, fabrics and equipment to make each one entirely unique
to its owner.

Asiamarine is the dealer for Galeon, and also operates charter operations in Asia. According to Thailand representative Vincent Tabuteau, “This yacht ticks all the boxes. The Galeon 460 is absolutely the right design for Asia. I have been running charter operations in Phuket for over 20 years, and this motoryacht is the perfect balance of pleasure, luxury and function. The convertible bow settee area and the aft ‘beach mode’ configuration is the perfect arrangement for enjoying time on the water, and when this is combined with the high-quality interiors and finishes that all Galeon yachts are known for, you have a winner.”

Several engine options and propulsion types, including IPS drives, allow the owner to strike a perfect balance between excellent fuel economy and sporty performance, further reinforcing the position of the Galeon 460 as a boat that provides a perfect lifestyle option for those who enjoy being properly close to the water.
