Luxury catamarans: Leopard 58 boasts extra space and comfort

Ergonomics and design leap to an all new level in the latest South African catamaran.

Leopard Catamaransā€™ flagship, the 58, sets a new standard in the sailing market. Built by Robertson & Caine, the larger model features all the award-winning aspects of its siblings, but with that little bit of extra space, youā€™d expect from a top of the range sailing yacht.

An expansive flybridge takes spaciousness to an entirely new level with seating for 12. All areas from the flybridge to the aft deck and forward cockpit feature a high-quality composite teak decking, perfect for the high wear and tear expected of active Leopard Catamaran users. A standard flybridge hardtop also means that come rain or shine, you can enjoy the outdoor space on offer.

Every area of the main deck has easy access, enabling you to move effortlessly from saying the saloon to the outdoor dining areas. Perfect for entertaining! You can also order the cabin in a number of different variations and layouts. With two to six cabins possible, owners can optimise the space to best fit their needs, for example, having two master cabins on the bridge deck. That way, should you wish to step outside from the master cabin, youā€™ll have direct access to your own private space. In this configuration, the master cabin also features a queen-sized bed, en-suite head facilities including double sinks and a stall shower, as well as plenty of storage and a dressing room.

The 58 is all about space and with 750 square feet in the saloon alone, thereā€™s plenty to ensure comfort on a day in the harbour or a month on the high seas. The large windows let in an abundance of natural light, which adds to the sense of space while giving wonderful views of the surroundings. The open plan layout also means the galley makes food preparation and interaction with the rest of your guests a complete breeze.

As a sailing catamaran with so many features, the 58 is great for charters. You can be as private or social as you like and the flexibility in space design is second to none. I can easily see individuals purchasing this catamaran to use occasionally themselves and then charter throughout South East Asia. There are so many places to sail that a catamaran of this size is perfect for and with up to six bedrooms, itā€™s excellent for going with family and friends.

When the wind isnā€™t quite blowing as youā€™d like, a pair of 75hp engines will help you along while also being extremely useful for manoeuvring in channels as you make your way out to sea. Two optional steering joysticks and engine control repeaters will also assist you in this procedure.

The Leopard 58 is a superbly crafted catamaran for multi purpose owners. It offers a flexibility and usability few yacht have and many will now try and imitate. I especially like the ability to have the master suites on the bridge deck. This layout can suit both private users and charterers. Get ready to see a lot more catamarans with cabins on the main deck.
