Curvaceous lines, powerful performance and signature Porsche design. You would be forgiven if you mistook this as a description of the latest model from the famed German car manufacturer. Instead, it applies to a conveyance of a different variety entirely – in this case, the Studio FA Porsche-designed, all-aluminium Dynamiq GTT 115 hybrid.

“The big factor that makes this yacht exciting the yard’s ability to step out, be less traditional and bring in brands like Studio Porsche,” says Greg Dagge, a Partner with Central Yacht, Dynamiq’s ambassador in Asia.

A Porsche fan will likely recognise the distinctive, automotive-inspired details in the 35m motor yacht. It starts with the trademark Porsche Rhodium Silver paint colour. Then the sweeping exterior lines imitate the air-intakes on a Porsche, while the transom is designed to echo the Porsche Taycan.

The flybridge roof top is inspired by the Targa roll bar, with the same trapezoid structure. Even inside, the Porsche DNA is apparent, with a bold Pepita houndstooth carpet inspired by the 991 R.

“We based this boat on the overall architecture of the Dynamiq brand, but you will see the GTT 115 has a different form. The front of the boat is much softer, for instance, and there are some elements reminiscent of automotive features on the exterior,” says Roland Heiler, Managing Director of Studio FA Porsche.

“For example, the big exterior design feature on the side of the yacht, with the air intake; you can see that on cars like the Porsche Carrera GT. We also tried to create a completely new transom area, with the stairs coming down in a very unique way.”

Dynamiq is not stopping here with its car collaborations and has partnered with British luxury marque Bentley Home on the interior of the 41m GTT 135, which is currently under construction in the builder’s facilities in Massa, Italy, and due for delivery in summer 2020. In fact, the builder can arrange for an owner to have their yacht designed by the designer or car brand of their choice.

DRIVEN BY DESIGN

In recent years, there have been a fair share of yacht-car collaborations, but the GTT 115 stands apart, says Dynamiq’s CEO and Founder Sergei Dobroserdov, because this isn’t merely
a co-branding exercise, nor only focused on aesthetics.

to translate the builder’s brief for a high- performance, sporty and efficient superyacht in the famed Porsche styling. Dobroserdov was attracted to working with the Porsche studio due to the design house’s eye for sexy, timeless styling, but it was the designers’ technical acumen that sealed the deal.

Dynamiq is a burgeoning builder, but it’s backed up by a wealth of experience and expertise, as well as its confidence to call on the top designers to bring its visions to life.

Dobroserdov has had a long, successful career in yachting, starting as a maritime lawyer and then a broker. Over the years, he has worked with the top Italian and Dutch shipyards, and at Dynamiq he has tapped into this knowledge base to create a new breed of motor yacht.

It’s a wholly international operation, too. Dynamiq’s head office is in Monaco, the yachts are built in Italy, and the design and naval architecture comes from the crème de la crème of northern European design houses.

In the case of the GTT 115, naval architecture is by the acclaimed Dutch studio Vripack, with styling from Studio FA Porsche and interior furnishings from Italian brand Minotti. And since earlier this year, Dynamiq and its yachts have been promoted in Asia through Dagge and Paul Brackley of Central Yacht.

SUITED FOR ASIAN WATERS

Dagge thinks the GTT 115 has several attributes that make her stand out among comparably sized yachts. These include a shallow draft of 1.45m that’s a metre less than her competitors, hybrid propulsion for up to 6,500nm silent cruising, and an oversized 95sqm sun deck, which offers a palatial area for outdoor entertaining yet is shaded with a hardtop.

A sunbathing area and spa tub is forward, and aft is a large table for al fresco dining. This extended flybridge deck not only provides more outdoor living area but has an effect on the exterior shape of the yacht, giving distinctive lines.

This is added to by the vertical bow shape, which gives the yacht a suitably aggressive look. The bow design also allows the waterline to be extended, resulting in a more comfortable ride and increased interior living space.

The GTT 115 is offered in either a three or four-cabin layout. Hull number one is available for sale in turn-key condition with three cabins accommodating six guests, looked after by a crew of six.

The yacht feels altogether spacious for its size, benefiting from 2.2m ceilings. Expansive windows flood the interior with natural light, yet they’re made of special heat-resisting XIR glass, so the interior stays nice and cool in hot climes, saving the owner money on air- conditioning. The main saloon spreads out over the main deck, with a galley forward.

Heiler says: “Dobroserdov has a lot of experience in yachting, so a lot of the usability of space was brought in by him. He knows exactly how much space you need for a generous master or saloon. Because of this, you won’t find the master cabin on the main deck. Instead the layout has been designed with optimal guest comfort in mind.”

Marnix Hoekstra of Vripack explains: “The cabins are placed in the most comfortable position of the boat – about 10 to 20 per cent aft of the midship, where the engines would normally be.”

FORWARD THINKING

This layout is possible due to the yacht’s podded hybrid power and a split engine room, which uses space in an innovative way. The main engines and pods are still aft, as you’d typically expect, but a second, smaller engine room is forward and holds the generators and energy-management system.

One might not equate a sports car to high efficiency, but because of its hybrid power plant, the GTT 115 is economical. The yacht is capable of transatlantic crossings, with a non-hybrid range of 3,400nm at 10 knots, and equally adept at saving the cost of fuel even on short island-hopping trips or coastal cruises.

Vripack also created the hull with comfort in mind. “These kinds of boats would typically have a hard chine, but we’ve chosen a round bilge,” Hoekstra says. “It’s a soft angle that results in a soft ride, which typically is appreciated by people as it’s a gentler experience while on board.”

Build time is 20 months. A bounty of features come standard, such as mahogany railings, and carbon-fibre exterior details.

But for those who want to go beyond the standard, Dynamiq introduced a unique concept with its first launch, the 39m Jetsetter (the precursor of the GTT 135), which allows clients to customise any Dynamiq boat, mimicking the ease of car buying.

On the Dynamiq website, a client can spec everything online, starting from hull colour and fabrics to underwater light options and cabin layouts, ensuring they personalise the yacht to their own needs and style.

“Consider the model as a platform, a blank canvas almost, but at a fixed size and with most engineering fixed as well,” Dagge says.

You certainly don’t have to be a Porsche fanatic to fall for the GTT 115 or Dynamiq’s other models from 30-50m. With expansive living areas, high-end detailing and comfortable, efficient seakeeping, Dynamiq builds yachts that many owners can get on board with.

But, as Heiler says: “I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people who are interested in this boat would also have a Porsche in their garage.”
