Columbus Yachts to Unveil 80m Flagship Dragon at Monaco
A Palumbo Superyachts brand, Italy’s Columbus has unveiled its flagship 80m Dragon, which will have its world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show.
Columbus Yachts’ 80m flagship Dragon will be among the star attractions at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show from September 25-28. The yacht has a beam of 13m (43ft) and an internal volume of almost 2,300GT.
Columbus, which was founded in 2008 and is a Palumbo Superyachts brand, spent just 27 months building the 263-footer, with the hull and superstructure built in parallel in Naples and Ancona.
The megayacht is a huge leap in size from previous Columbus builds like the 54m Prima, 57m Taiba and 40m Sport Hybrid models Eleonora III and Divine, while a 50m Sport model is currently under construction in the Ancona shipyard and due to be launched in spring 2020.
Hydro Tec Studio handled Dragon’s exterior design and naval engineering, with Francesco Guida responsible for her interior.
Dragon has an elevator serving five of its six decks. The lower deck houses the crew area, technical rooms and a garage for tenders of 7m and 9.5m, the latter built by the yard. There’s also a gym, a guest cabin and a 200sqm beach club that includes a bar, sauna and Turkish bath and several relaxation areas.
On the main deck, the large living room has a contemporary Provencal look and features two large lounge areas and a classic Chelini table. The dining area includes a custom-made 14-seat table by Giorgetti with a Roman travertine top, maple edges and leather legs.
A highlight are the six large windows, four of which are 5m wide by 2m high, creating a naturally bright environment. Forward are four guest cabins and the large panoramic VIP suite, each with a private Roman travertine-clad bathroom.
The upper deck is reserved for the owner and includes a 110sqm cabin with large windows for a 180-degree view of the private foredeck, en-suite bathroom, sauna, separate wardrobes and vanity area. On the same deck, a pantry serves both the sleeping area and the large living area, which also has a dedicated bar.
The aft cockpit has a 14-seat dining table and a relaxation area with sofas and chaise longues. In the bow, a second living area provides access to the helicopter platform, which also provides access underneath to storage for three jet-skis.
The bridge deck includes the wheelhouse, Captain’s cabin and a 50sqm wellness area, with a beauty and massage parlour, and Technogym equipment. The sun deck includes chaise longues in the bow and a 7m pool aft, where a blade waterfall divides the pool from the whirlpool.
With twin MTU engines, 2,240kW each, Dragon can reach 17 knots and has a range of over 6,200nm at the ‘eco-speed’ of 12 knots.
Palumbo Superyachts has a representative office in Monaco, five shipyards in the Mediterranean (Ancona, Napoli, Malta, Savona and Marseille) and five brands: ISA, Columbus, Mondomarine, Extra and Palumbo SY (PSY), the latter dedicated to refit.
