Being one of the first 100 Gullwings ever produced, this 1954 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing was built as a racing sports car and it made a record success in major racing events of the time in 1955.
After three years with its original owner, Hollywood legendary film actor Paul Newman acquired the Gullwing in 1957. It has gone though a fastidious 6,000-hour restoration to its original specification by a team of five specialists, making it desirable and also reliable for its lineage.
The 1954 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing remained with Newman when he moved to Connecticut in the 1960s. It wasn’t until 1984, the car (then in silver finish) returned to Europe. Prior to that, the 1954 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Gullwing has gone through several hands over the years, before ending up with Paris-based dealer Classic Sports Leicht.
The interior of the Gullwing features seats with checkered patterns, made-to-measure leather luggage set, complete with light blue metallic body paintwork rather than silver metallic as standard. The body style was constructed of lightweight alloy, with the engine hood, and doors complete in aluminum.
