Two classic super saloons, owned by film Star and British comedian Rowan Atkinson, best known in his roles as Mr Bean and Johnny English, are going under hammer at the Race Retro Classic Car Sale in England next month.

Being an exotic car collector, even if he decides to chuck away an astonishing car from his personal inventory anytime soon, he’s not averse to selling any of them. But that might not be true as the famous and well-reported 1997 McLaren F1 hypercar which he owned was sold to an unknown buyer for $12 million.

1989 Lancia Thema 8.32

Of the two modern classic cars to go to auction, Atkinson has held on to the 1989 Lancia Thema 8.32 longer than the other car he’s putting up for sale. The Lancia has a close association to the Alfa Romeo 164 and Saab 9000 and what’s unique about the car is its Ferrari-derived 3.0-liter, V8 engine powering the front wheel through a manual gearbox, and that produces a modest 215 horsepower.

Another is a 1993 example of the Mercedes-Benz 500E, which is hand built at Porsche’s facilities, and got them the type code 2758 in Porsche’s official nomenclature. Perhaps a little surprising!

Being a car lover, Atkinson has been enjoying things like its pioneering, electrically raised rear spoiler for some seven years now.

Held by Silverstone Auctions,  both cars will be auctioned at the Race Retro Classic Car Sale from February 24-25 at the Race Retro International Historic Motorsport Show 2018 at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, England.
