The Heritage Edition of the 2019 Ford GT is emblematic of current product trends where Vintage design meets modern engineering. Paying tribute to the famous Monaco-Le Mans Gulf Oil liveried Ford GT40s that won the 1968, with drivers Pedro Rodriguez and Lucien Bianchi and 1969, legend Jacky Ickx (whom we interviewed in the upcoming issue of World of Watches) 24 Hours of Le Mans, this 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition is emblazoned with the iconic light blue and orange paint scheme, a signature of the famous oil brand.

“Many view the Gulf Oil paint scheme as the most famous in motorsports. The 1968 GT40 quickly became a global sensation after beating its European competitors on the track four times in a row, and in honour of the 50th anniversary of its win, we’re paying fresh tribute to the original with a new heritage limited edition.” – Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of Global Operations.

Arguably immortalised by Steve McQueen’s Le Mans, but actually shot to acclaim thanks to beating the shoo-in European competition four times in a row, the iconic blue and orange of the Gulf Oil-sponsored racecar; today, similar to the 2004 GT, Ford is offering its latest GT supercar in a Heritage Edition bearing these signature Gulf colours.

The interior of the 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition is dressed in the same design codes as its exterior, ebony Alcantara and blue and orange contrast stitching, with exposed carbon fibre accents on essential elements like the the steering wheel and seats – meriting special mention: square pattern covering the seats is made to replicate that of the winning 1968 GT40 variant.
