Mercedes introduced a new armoured truck concept to the defence industry.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon Light Armoured Patrol Vehicle 6.X was shown off for the first time last month during Eurosatory 2010 in Paris.
Running a high torque common rail diesel engine, the 6.X is capable of 150km/h speeds while being able to transport 1.3 tonnes of cargo.
The vehicle’s modular armour plate system allows damaged plates to be removed quickly and be replaced with new or extra plates, and includes a mine deflector plate on the vehicles floor.
Other features on the off-roader include variable air shock absorbers that can be adjusted on the fly to provide up to 450mm of clearance.
Hydraulic brakes with ventilated discs were also added to make rough terrain easier to navigate.
A cooperation with the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS) provides command center capabilities with a data recorder, communications system, and jamming system.
