It is official now : Bugatti is working on a Targa semi-convertible version of its EB16.4 Veyron super-coupe.

This targa version of the Bugatti supercar will make its public debut at the 2008 Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach, California, which kicks off on August 17.

The topless Bug will get a removable hardtop, but Since the Veyron’s packaging is so tight, the roof panel cannot be stored on board meaning the cover will have to be taken off at home.

To compensate, a storable fabric cover will also be included to protect the interior from the elements in emergency situations.

As with all other convertibles, the chassis will be reinforced to make up for the lack of a roof.

These changes are expected to come at a cost to performance; thus, the Veyron Targa’s top speed will be limited to 217mph ( lower than the coupe’s upper bound of 253 mph).

Full production of the car isn’t expected to start until early next year (2009). Production numbers are expected to be in the 75 or 80 range, with the price premium over the $2 million.
