Aston Martin DB4 – Quintessentially British

The Pre-Production Aston Martin DB4 for Sale

Just over a week ago, Paul McCartney’s Aston Martin DB5 was auctioned for $1.8 million followed by the 1960s DB5, once owned by Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, was listed for sale on a classic car website. For classic car collectors, the pre-production of the 1959 DB4 is now up for sale through the London-based classic car experts Hexagon Classics, which is said to be even more exclusive and rare.

Thanks to the key people who were involved in the development of the DB4 in 1956, the four-seater coupe was designed with aluminum panels fixed to a tubular frame by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan, that bills itself as the “Superleggera”.

Come to the pre-production of the 1959 DB4, the Blu Scozia by Hexagon Classics was the only third right hand drive version that rolled out of the Newport Pagnell factory and had gone through 37 years of upgrades by Aston Martin aficionado Richard Williams, according to AFP Relaxer.

What made this particular DB4 so special is “the fact that it was registered originally by Aston Martin as its London demonstrator model before production began, and continued until 1963,” said the source.

This model has been updated with a five-speed gearbox, and the wheel arches have been modified to accommodate a larger set of offset wire wheels. This example was raced in the legendary hill climb events, and after an extensive restoration, the DB4 could cost as much as £222,000, making the pre-production model one of the finest and a rare find anywhere in the world.
