911 Carrera convertible

Porsche has released the first images of its 911 Carrera Cabriolet ahead of its debut at next year’s North American International Auto Show (January 9-22).

The convertible edition of the 911 Carrera uses a new roof mechanism considerably lighter than predecessors thanks to the use of magnesium in the hood frame.

The mechanism also uses two lightweight fabric-covered plastic panels which should make it stronger and more resistant to wind buffeting at high speeds.

Like its coupe sibling, the 911 Carrera Carbiolet also has a longer wheelbase, wider front track and shorter front and rear overhangs, which will improve handling.

It will be sold with a 3.4-liter engine producing 350hp and a 3.8-liter engine producing 400hp for the high-performance S version, both of which can manage a fuel efficiency of over 28mpg (8.4 l/100km).
