Private Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental

The world’s first privately-owned Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental has been delivered to one well-heeled buyer, airplane manufacturer Boeing announced this week.

The 747-8, a ‘stretched’ version of the classic jumbo jet, normally seats 467 passengers across its two decks, but the delivery made this week is likely to carry considerably fewer.

Instead, the undisclosed VIP customer will be able to fill the airliner with almost whatever they want, likely limited only by their imagination — and the 444 square meters of space which they have to play with.

As fantastically wealthy airplane buyers through the years have proved though, with some creative thought one can fit almost anything onto a jet,

Nicolas Sarkozy’s presidential jet is said to be equipped with a mini-operating theater, as well as those ā‚¬75,000 ovens that hit the headlines last year.

Not to be outdone, Dmitri Medvedev’s Russian-built Ilyushin II-96PU is said to contain bathrooms equipped with bidets and gold sinks.

Air Force One — the world’s most famous private plane — contains enough offices to run the US executive function from 35,000ft.

Donald Trump showed the world a private suite with its own shower cubicle in a video of his Boeing 757, while John Travolta’s private Boeing 707 boasts a lounge, with sofas, wood panelling and dining tables.

The prize for the most ambitious private plane goes to one that hasn’t actually been built yet, said to be planned for Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal.

A modified Airbus A380 ‘superjumbo’, plans for the flying palace are reported to contain a garage for cars, a sweeping grand staircase, a mini-concert hall, a marble lined steamroll and five master bedrooms.
