Emirates Airline’s will launch its first A380 commercial service from Dubai to New York JFK on August 1st. The 14-hour non-stop flight will also be the first-ever commercial A380 service to the United States.

Emirates expects delivery of five A380s in its current financial year and from December 1, first class passengers will be able to enjoy a shower during a flight between Heathrow and Dubai for a price of $9,500.

The A380 airbuses will have to carry an extra 500kg of water,25 per cent more than currently, to ensure that all 14 First Class passengers can have a decent dousing.

The showers are regulated through a software program that gives people a five-minute shower ; a traffic light system would let passengers know how long they had left.

Each shower has been designed to accommodate just one person at a time although “photographs of the units suggest that the shower proportions may not be sufficiently tight to deter more adventurous passengers determined to save water.”

First class also boasts 14 flat-bed, massage-equipped ‘Private Suites’ which include remote controlled doors, a work desk, an electrically controlled mini-bar and the most advanced in-flight entertainment system available to travellers.

“Rivals Singapore Airlines may have stolen the march with the world’s first double-beds aboard its A380s. But Emirates believe the shower spas will give them the edge.” Via dailymail
