Best Sandwiches From Around the World
Travel + Leisure magazine’s list of Best Sandwiches in the world ranges from the Vietnamese banh mi sandwich, to a hand-massaged Wagyu beef sandwich.
Travel + Leisure magazine’s list of Best Sandwiches in the world ranges from humble, Vietnamese street foods like the banh mi, to a $100 sammy from Japan stuffed with hand-massaged Wagyu beef on slices of crustless white bread.
The list spans the world and is a tribute to regional specialties like the croque- monsieur — the French version of a grilled cheese sandwich — and lobster rolls from Massachusetts.
Chef and food personality Mario Batali’s contribution to the list is a sandwich filled with squid in its own ink and aioli from Madrid, while Stewart named a ham and cheese baguette from a New York bakery as her favorite.
And while the Wagyu sandwich rings in at a hefty $100, Bourdain’s pick of a fully loaded banh mi sandwich complete with a fried egg from a Vietnamese street stall, was a humble 50 cents.
