William Grant & Sons Distillers unveiled a Glenfiddich 50-year aged version of the liquor that is priced at £10,000 ($16,000).

Intended for large pockets and refined palates, the Glenfiddich 50 Year Old Single Malt Whisky is a rare and precious “piece of art” that carries the brand’s heritage.

The bottles come wrapped in a Scottish hand-stitched, leather-bound case, in addition to the leather-bound book that contains the history of the whisky.

The Distillers is said to release 50 bottles per year, over a span of next ten years. The whisky was kept in two casks in the Banffshire distillery’s warehouse.

The company said: “The taste is initially sweet with a zesty orange marmalade and vanilla toffee, which then cascades through a wonderful series of layers: aromatic herbs, floral and soft fruits, silky oak tannin and hints of gentle smoke.”

“The finish is exceptionally long with a touch of dry oak and the merest trace of peat.”

The first bottle goes on sale on 1 September through Aelia at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport T2E.

The remaining bottles will be made available in selected travel retail and domestic markets from 1 November.

The 50yo is expected to be on sale through travel retail at several airports including London Heathrow, Dubai, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore Changi as well as through Hans Just in Scandinavia.
