The World Travel Awards, an organization tasked with selecting some of the world’s best travel experiences, has launched a luxury magazine to share its knowledge.
The organization officially launched this week’s Best in Travel online and as an Android app March 24, focusing on “the world’s most glamorous travel experiences.”
Unlike competitors such as Conde Nast Traveler and Wanderlust, it won’t be available on newsstands — the publisher says it reflects a shift from print to web as a source of travel information — but that’s led to some compelling features.
On the web-based interface, pictures move and interactive features such as slideshows, virtual tours and videos are embedded, along with links to further information on the website and sharing services such as YouTube and Twitter.
Stories in the first edition include a look at the Jamaican resort of GoldenEye, a review of the enormous Allure of the Seas cruise ship and an interactive tour and video of Mardan Palace in Turkey, Europe’s most expensive resort.
The format, which is Flash-based, isn’t available on the iPad yet although a spokesperson told Relaxnews that designers were looking into producing an iOS version for future editions.
However, the experience and reach of the publishing team could prove a compelling offer for luxury-lovers, with the magazine’s publisher Manon Han pointing out that her organization has the annual task of “scouring the globe in search of the ultimate in luxury travel.”
