As premium travelers take to the skies again, this week has seen the launch of new products catering to big-spending passengers from two major airlines.
Cathay Pacific launched its new business class seat at a glittering event in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, describing it as a “passenger-led design.”
The seat folds down into a flat bed offering more space than the existing business class cabins, along with a view out the windows and handy remotes to control the widescreen inflight entertainment system and the adjustable seat.
Cathay Pacific says that the redesign offers a bed that is one of the longest and widest on any commercial airline and promises that the seats will be installed on all of its longhaul Boeing 777-300ER and A330-300s jets by February 2013.
The new business class service also includes artwork by Hong Kong artist Maria Lobo and new lounges at Hong Kong International Airport, where a renovated “The Wing” lounge will soon be added to the new “The Cabin” lounge.
Cathay Pacific isn’t the only airline trying to make its business-class passengers happy this week.
Etihad launched its new lounge at Manchester Airport December 9, welcoming Manchester City Football Club manager Roberto Mancini as one of the first guests.
The new 318 square meter lounge offers a business centre, a relaxation area, a family room for children and luxurious bathrooms and shower facilities.
The lounge, which is Etihad’s fourth after Abu Dhabi, London and Frankfurt, also features a specially-designed gallery showcasing Manchester City Football Club memorabilia — Etihad has been the team’s sponsor since last year.
