Norwegian airport launches dog-sledding taxi

The Kirkenes Snow Hotel has launched a dog sled taxi service, the first of its kind in Norway, to transport guests from the hotel to the property.

A small airport at the tip of Northern Norway has launched the world’s first dog-sledding taxi service in a bid to attract more interest to the area.

Instead of a cab or a stretch limo, passengers arriving at the Kirkenes Airport can hop on a Husky-pulled sled to the Kirkenes Snowhotel.

During the 45-minute trek, guests are given a scenic tour of the Nordic surroundings, reported English-language paper The Local.

The service is backed by the country’s defense services, local municipality and reindeer authorities and costs 2,300 NOK or $370 USD.

Dog-sledding activities are popular among hotels in northern climes like Norway, Sweden and Quebec, which attract hardy, fearless winter lovers.
