A wedding cake slice from the 2011 wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has been sold at an auction in Beverly Hills for $6,000.
Auctioneer Julien’s of Beverly Hills had expected the cake to raise just $2,000 at most. But it was eventually snapped up by Gee Chuang, co-founder and CEO ofĀ Listia.com, for nearly four times as much.

The cake is presented in a special collectorās tin, engraved with the words āWilliam & Catherine 29 April 2011ā and wrapped in greaseproof paper, the same way samples of the cake were handed out to guests of the royal wedding. The box comes with an official wedding card and blank invitation.
Chuang purchased the cake as a way to promote his startup Listia.com, a marketplace for members to exchange goods, without exchanging money.
In April of next year, when the couple marks their fourth wedding anniversary, Chuang says he plans to give away the slice on the site.
Created by baker Fiona Cairns, the eight-tiered cake was covered in 900 sugar flowers, and consisted of 17 individual fruit cakes. The cake was the centerpiece for the wedding and was the result of 5 weeksā worth of labor.
