On May 14 Karl Lagerfeld presented Chanel‘s 2013 Cruise collection around the Trois Fontaines Bosquet fountains at the Château de Versailles near Paris, with ornate Marie Antoinette-inspired creations receiving an edgy update thanks to the addition of candy-colored wigs and flatform shoes.
Wedding cake
Appearing to have been inspired by a wedding cake, many of the voluminous fondant-like dresses looked good enough to eat.
Go for gold
Majestic references were seen in lashings of golden embellishments, although candy-colored bob wigs added a quirkier element.
First lady
Tweed skirt suits in demure pastels were some of the more conservative pieces on display.
Pannier
Many of the dresses jutted out at the sides, giving the impression of panniers underneath.
Flatform
Thanks to the addition of flatform shoes, apron-style gowns were given a modern edge.
Floral frenzy
Floral embellishments were a recurring element of the ultra-feminine creations.
Pedal pusher
Men taking to the runway wore Capri pants and court-inspired tops.
Little white jacket
Chanel’s classic box jacket was given a regal flavor with ornate purple, gold and floral detailing.
Along with the likes of Dior and Gucci, the Chanel Resort collection is one of the fashion world’s most anticipated, with last year’s show at the Hotel du Cap in Antibes on the French Riviera welcoming stars such as Vanessa Paradis, Blake Lively, and Rachel Bilson to see Lagerfeld’s nautical-influenced creations.
