Crib Ball 2017 at Shangri-La Singapore: The “Empress’ Journey” down the Silk Road
Exploring the ancient Silk Road for a good cause, the inspiring team of women behind CRIB held their second Crib Ball at the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore
We love an occasion to dress up to the nines and when that reason involves a charitable cause, you needn’t have to convince us any further. On May 3, we joined some 540 inspiring entrepreneurs, business owners and guests at the Shangri-La Hotel, for the Crib Ball 2017 which was organised by the social enterprise Creating Responsible and Innovative Businesses (Crib). Honouring the trade route known as the Silk Road, the theme of the night was that of “The Empress’ Journey” which gave guests a chance to try their hand at interpreting the styles of ancient China, India, Persia and Arabia.
The night kicked off with an introduction of the night’s lineup and dance performances that entertained guests. To keep guests on their toes, was a live auction that offered the highest bidders a chance to get their hands on lots such as luxurious accommodation options by Afini and other luxury items. Along with the night’s entertainment, the ball held a competition for the best-dressed guests of the evening, which saw Paige Parker and Mehtab Ahluwalia taking the crown. Even with the style stakes set high, guests feasted on a delicious fusion inspired, four-course dinner crafted by the Shangri-La Hotel.
The menu began with a Prawn Tandoori with mixed crunch vegetable, Beetroot Borani, Mint Chutney and Tamarind Sauce which was followed by Hot and Sour Chicken Coconut Broth, Thai Rice Noodles and Kaffir Lime. Next up was a delectable offering of Hoisin Marination Chicken, Miso Foie Gras, Edamame, Eggplant Chutney and Sweet Potato Fritters. To cap off the gastronomical treat, was a dessert that consisted of Basil Chili Panna Cotta, Yuzu Sorbet and Lychee Meringue, Kumquat and Physalis Fruit. Of course, the night would not have been complete without alcoholic beverages that were served by Cali Wine, Wine Ministry, Codigo and Four Fox Sake among others.
It wasn’t all fun, games and fashion though for the evening was also an opportunity for the Crib founders, to shine the light on the beneficiary charity called EmancipAction. With the aim of providing assistance to the young women and children who have been abused and exploited in the commercial sex trade, it was certainly a night filled with good causes and fun.
