Prominent figures from the art, film, fashion and entertainment industry rallied together last Saturday, 2^nd November, for the LACMA’s ninth annual Art + Film Gala in honor of influential American Artist Betye Saar and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón. Presented by Gucci and Chaired by LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio, the gala held in Los Angeles gathered over 800 distinguished guests. Attendees included Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri,  Naomi Campbell, Billie Eilish, John Legend, Jared Leto, Ricky Martin, Keanu Reeves, Alessandro Michele, Alexandra Grant, Lauren Halsey, Asia Chow, Salma Hayek Pinault and CEO of Kering, Francois-Henri Pinault.

Over the years, the Art +Film Gala has honored talented artists such as Catherine Opie, Mark Bradford, light artist James Turrell, conceptual artist Barbara Kruger, American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, Clint Eastwood and Guillermo del Toro – best known for his work in The Shape of Water.

With a collection of nearly 142,000 objects that illuminate 6,000 years of artistic expression across the globe, the LACMA is the western United States’ largest museum which remains committed to showcasing and interpreting a multitude of art histories from new and unexpected points of view. The LACMA works closely with global artists, technologists, and thought leaders to pioneer initiatives, programs and engage new audiences.

Thanks to Gucci’s longstanding and generous partnership with the LACMA, the Art + Film gala raised over $4.6 million, with proceeds supporting the Los Angeles County Museum’s film initiatives, future exhibitions, acquisitions and programming efforts. The 2019 gala has raised considerably more money compared to previous years and is deemed by the most successful yet by co-chair Eva Chow. To put things in perspective: The 2018 gala raised approximately $4.5 million for the museum’s operations and collections, while in 2013 it raised $4.1 million and in 2011,  just under $3 million was generated.

Attendees were greeted with a red-carpet at LACMA’s Wilshire Boulevard entrance before moving through the museum’s Smidt Welcome Plaza to a cocktail reception on the museum’s Zev Yaroslavsky Plaza which featured Betye Saar inspired motifs. Proceeding to the Art + Film dinner pavilion, guests were seated for a special dinner, overlooking Michael Heizer’s Levitated Mass (2012), prepared by Patina Restaurant Group’s celebrity chef Joachim Splichal. It was there that Michael Govan and Eva Chow warmly welcomed the crowd while guests John Legend, Christine Taylor and Donald Glover paid tribute to both artists through speeches, montages and commissioned short films.
