Watching ‘You Will Never Escape Room 8″, as its title suggests, invokes a strong sense of claustrophobia and entrapment. From the setting of a prison, to the mise en abyme of rooms, liberation is treated as something that is available but unattainable. “Room 8 is one of five in a series created to spark your imagination. Oscar winning writer Geoffrey Fletcher, has written the scripts with the idea that the short film should have no genre or direction.” Indeed when the film began, I had no idea where it was going, whether it would be dramatic or comedic, who the characters were and what was really happening at all. But all that uncertainty adds to the thrill of this enticing film.
