Which Is Your Biggest Regret?
Street photography series that reveals our greatest regrets
Romanian photographer Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi investigates the biggest regrets people harbor in his recent photography series. The photographer asked strangers he met on the streets what their biggest regrets were, and asked them to write their answers on signs. He then captured portraits of these participants holding their handwritten signs. While some subjects declared that they live with no regrets, others shared personal secrets- such as their experience with alcohol addiction and, commonly, their remorse over not witnessing the last moments of a loved one who passed away. Each subject are featured staring straight in to the lens with vulnerable and solemn faces, evoking empathy, forcing us to think about the regrets we burden ourselves with.
“This question has given to me the chance to have a profound connection between me and the interlocutor, thus managing to get into their soul and bring out a grinding they have [had] for years,” the photographer shares. “I think that frequently when you share your thought with somebody, even if it is [a] strange person, you release the black stain which is on the soul and you can feel free.”
