Vanishing Animal Sculptures by Pascal Chesneau
Artist’s sculpture wins Wildlife Artist of the Year Award
French Artist Pascal Chesneau is well-known for his vanishing animal sculptures. His signature technique of creating sculptures with missing parts is similar to that of artist Bruno Catalana’s sculpture work. His series of vanishing animal sculptures include the giraffe, rhinoceros, kangaroos and other wildlife. Recently, Chesneau won the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation 2014 Wildlife Artist of the Year Award for his elegant vanishing sculpture of an Elephant, aptly titled Transparence Elephant. Chesneau beat out more than 1,000 entrants to win the top prize, £10,000. Like all of his vanishing sculptures, the artwork is missing major pieces from its body. His winning sculpture was created using the hood of a car, representing the strength and transcience of an elephant and it’s spirit.
